P3/M2 - My Skills
Organisation – As a person I do not like putting work off to the last minute, if something needs to be done it has to be done as soon as I receive the work. I do a lot of work outside of lessons to either catch up on work I have missed, or be ahead of others to make sure that I am in a good position after the Production process. I usually carry a folder for all my work and each section having its own clean presentation. If work is to be done it needs to be done properly.
Team worker – Some people say I work well as a team and others say I work better as an individual. Although I prefer to be a leader of a project as I believe that I will get things done right and quick I do like the input of others as sometimes my creativity can be lacking. Every time there is or will be a project I will always try to stay back and let others have their own creative mindset as each person is different visually and verbally. As a team I communicate well being a leader asking people to do their jobs with a bit of passion but also assertive so they will get everything finished on time. The gaps in my skills are listening to others as everyone in the team gets a say, as communication is key in a team. I will in future understand other people’s abilities and take this into account.
Written Communication – I try to make all aspects of media as real as possible (as much as creativity lets me). Research is key aspect on creating films and productions; this includes costume but also the stories being told by others. I will always write everything that happens around me from small stories to life changing stories. Each project needs to create an aspect and I believe that a true story grabs an audience more than anything. Written work needs to be laid out neatly but also clearly. When it comes to writing I am not the strongest, so using computers makes it easier to read than my handwriting. Also email and text messages can get information to people quicker. A gap in my skills in written communication is wording and spelling, I would much rather speak to someone face to face about my intentions then type them within a letter or email. I have been taking English lessons in order to create a more sophisticate way of looking at important documents and hopefully in the future I will be able to send an email or letter with no doubts, until that day comes however I have to rely on other to read over my work and help me re word anything to make it make sense.
Verbal Communication – This includes Confidence to free speech but also confidence to when saying to much can hurt someone’s feelings. As an acting student I gathered my confidence from standing on the stage in front of an audience. I also learnt how to speak clearly and calmly in order to get your point across. As a person I am quite collective and I do not want to cause anger with people, I speak my mind and if I do not like something I will tell them. This goes with being a leader in a group on a production team, if a shot is not perfect I will make sure it is in order to great quality piece. A gap in my skills is that I can get stressed quite easily, which turns into anger and shouting. As a leader I should not shout at a cast or crew as it lowers moral. I need to keep everything under control even if that means taking a break and coming back after calming down.
Practical Production – When it comes to technology I am good in using cameras and lighting to its basic effect. I would rather look over other people’s shots than create them myself. My creativity on angles and movement on screen is better left to someone who can visually see and ending piece as I seem to just go with what I think looks good without taking into consideration the creative flare. In future I will learn more skills in order to use equipment to its fall capacity, as I feel this is a life skill I need to know before going off to father education. Even if that means I will not use it again. In production I would call myself either the producer or Director creating an idea and making sure everything is stuck to time schedule but help anyway I can.
