New Line Film Productions Inc but also known as New Line Cinema, is an American film studio founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye as a film distribution company, later becoming an independent film studio.
New Line Cinema later merged with company Warner Bros. in 2008. However, the disappointment of The Golden Compass was largely blamed for the decision, in which New Line as the spent over their buget costing Warner Bros. millions of dollars.
New Line moved from its headquarters from Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles to Warner Bros. Lot Building 76, formerly used by Legendary Entertainment, a former WB film co-financier.
Operating model
New Line Cinema was an independent film company that took a lot of risks to make movies on their own. Every movie begins to form from a script, a book or life story to adopt, or just a vague concept. Producers who either work on their own or in some type links with New Line would present this idea and convince the company to buy the rights to the property to turn it into a film. Once the rights have been paid for, New Line would present a revised version of the script to different major film studios in the form of a “package” and pitch the movie to acquire funding to film it. Once the studio agreed to it budgeting could begin. Producers would examine the potential cost of making the film based on casting, production, equipment, locations, the script, and more, and then give that estimate to the studio to acquire the funding.
As New Line is teamed up with Warner Bros their marketing positon is shown in partnership with them. Their diverse brands helps us see how successfull their investments are. As you can see below New line is in the top three marketing shares and compared to other studio parents WB has more diverse brands. Which means more profit.

These are the top 15 films produced by New Line which isnt unexpected that The Lord of the Rings trilogy are nearer the top of the list with a greater domestic growth. Only the new three films have been distrabuted by Warner Bros. Pictures. Compared to the other films Lord Of The Rings is a completly different genres for exapmle Elf a christmas film about finding family, But they all have the same audience as all of them seem to reflect family fun films.
