Neville Brody Analysis

PURPOSE
The purpose for this font cover of this magazine is the identification of the magazine and to draw their target market in to buy and read this magazine. It is also used to inform the customer with what is going on in the world and maybe informs them about the people in the world, typically celebrities.
FORMAT
The format is in the form of a magazine cover. It is designed to sit on the shelf in a store and to draw the target audience in to read it. To advertise the magazine even more you could take the front cover and turn it into a print image like a poster by using A4 paper and printing the iage on to it.
CONTENT
The use of original photography connotes how everything in the magazine is original like the front. The direct address of the man at the front draws the customer in. The simple blocked fonts at the front show the simplicity of the magazine and the simplicity of the design; which could show that it is easy to understand. The colours seem to be natural with the green, yellow and reds all contribute together. The colours could also symbolise different aspects of the magazine like green could be the jealousy stories in the magazine. It contains a big mast head on the corner of the magazine which is unusal as mast heads usally go on top of the magazine. There is an issue date and issue price under the mast head and a slogan to catch the audiences attention. There is a content section of what will be in the magaizine and several story line titles.
LAYOUT
The layout is simple and easy to understand. This is helpful for people who just take a quick glance as they will remember the magazine and the colours. The simple layout of the lettering to the left and the man on the right makes a information side and doesn't take the effect away from the direct address of the man. The mast head at the top stays in line with the blocked writing to keep the focus still on the picture.
STYLE
As Neville was inspired by the style of Pop Art and Punk art as his art started in the Punk Ages. The photograph on the front shows the punk age whiles the roes could be how he is a loving punk. The blocked lettering shows a simple magazine and a simple designer, as it is san setif font if shows a unformal magazine with lots of information.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The Face was a British music, fashion and culture monthly magazine. The people interested will be anyone who are interested in what the magazine provides. It seems to advertise more to girls as their is a ‘pretty boy’ on the front but as it is the punk age it could be any age as Adam Ant was quite the punk rocker. Also it would advertise for teenaged at the time as they would be more into the music at the time and the colours seem to reflect any gender.
REGULATORY BODIES
The ASA is the independent body set up by the advertising industry to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes. Its web site includes annual reports 1997 onwards; research reports; the current editions of the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (the CAP Code), and the various other codes relating to radio and television advertising; and a searchable database of recent adjudications.
