Edit Decision List
I decided to pick three key moments of my edit decisions as this is quite a long film and these edits helped bring the film to life.
The first decision is to make sure all the soundeffects were made by my group. I produced the knife effect in the scene's by swiping a blade over metal and stabbing mince meat on a chopping board. This combined with some editing created the sound you hear in this scene. We also made a lightinging strike effect to create a mood and atmosphere to the audience when a character dies or when I want to crate a tense atmosphere. There is also a screme that peicers your ears when the audeince hears it. This helps the audeince engage with the film and helps them be a part of the scary goings on in the scene. There is a black out so it is left to the imagination of the audience of the death and killing.
The next decision was over lapping and reminding the audiences of the death of cetain characters. In certain scenes I was able to edit the deaths of cgaracters back into shot so people undetstand the plot as they continue. Also in some places the audio is green as the microphone audio was of bad quality and the audio from the boom microphone was better so linking this to the video became challenging but helpful as the audeince can now here the voices of the actors.
The Final Scene had to be tense and had to sum up the reasons for killing each character and why they did this in order to get what they want. The clip changes from one character to the other. The reactions is presented and the audeince can witness how each character feels about what happenened. Again at the end there is a scream and a blackout so it is left to the audeince whether Alice has died or has been speared for life. The mad hatter appears at the end and addresses the audeince, this is to present that story starting again. I wanted the plot to reflect a modern day fairy tale that is re told and re told, the finished shot adresses the audience to keep them wondering whether their will be another episode.
Effect Contols helped with the colour grdient for all the visual effects. As we couldnt shoot in a forest we wanted to make mysterious feeling of a misty forest covering up the secrets of the plot. The blue makes a cold calming effect with a grey tint for a dark side of the movie. This is applied to each movie clip to create the dak forest feel towards the audience.
The opening and ending are the biggest transtions between each episode of the film. Although the plot is differnet in each we had to find a way of connecting each episode to one storyline. Transitions between shots in the episodes create pauses and keeps the audience engaged, however, the big transition at the begiining with each opening helps the audeince follow on from the episode before. Each clip is from within the whole film and freezes within the action using freeze frames in order to display their names/characters.
