P4 - Evaluation
Production Process
We were a very organised group that worked hard in order to get the process completed in the small space of time we had. On the day it seemed to start very smoothly we were there on time and each actor turned up on time and got ready in order to start when in the time schedule started. However as the day proceeded we found that our individual strengths changed with each person. I seemed to switch from one piece of equipment to another in order to make everything perfect. Being the Producer I wanted everything to be present and in vision but I forgot about the certain angles and shots that were needed in order to make it an interesting film to watch. In order to do this we decided to evaluate each shot and keep going slowly and promptly. However, as a team we started to drift into our roles and into our roles very well. Emily being the director started to dictate what she wanted and controlled the camera crew very well. Bethany the set designer made sure things didn’t obviously move in shots and everything made sense. Me as the producer took control of one of the moving cameras and decided to be hands on in order to get what we all wanted.
Decisions Made
Decisions made were usually a group effort. We all decided to create our own episodes to express our own individuality on editing, we all decided what each other camera shots could be used and the music underlay is all the same as we picked it altogether. Teamwork is important in a film production. We all decided to look over each editing every week in order to see improvements and we also wanted to show a target audience, which we presented together. During the production it was more individual, people like Bethany was able to express her design and set she wanted and I as the producer could outline what he wanted in shot.
Revisions Made
Revisions made, again was all of us. We all helped each other to improve. We made changes on the day like how people died and with what equipment was needed, e.g. the crane was no longer needed, as we did not have the space. Also the location of some scenes we decided to change, however most decisions were made by me, as I am the leader of the group. I decided to cut out the ending of my film as I did not have the time and also the 5 minutes I wanted marked was made by me personally.
Technical Qualities
Technically, it was not the best in each shot. If I could go back I would white balance each character as each camera shot seemed to have a ‘misty’ look about them that we had to cover up with a video effect, which was very effective in the end and gave it a mystical feel to the piece. As a producer the shots were not thought out as much as I wanted, as we didn’t really have the time or the budget for the location itself. The music itself was bought off line so I would have liked it to be an original however time was short and the facilities was limited. Sound effects were all made by us and were very effective to the piece including the scream made by the actress was used throughout which sent chills down our audience’s spine. The equipment we had was of good quality but not the right people to manage them.
Aesthetic Qualities
Aesthetic qualities were down to the audience feedback. The main problem we had was having such a small room there was nowhere to store all the unused equipment. Also as we were not qualified professionals we seemed to always have some sort of equipment in view of the shot. The boom microphone was a massive problem the microphone seemed to dip in an out of shot throughout and this meant we all had to zoom in certain shots in order to get this out of the view. Also in some scenes you can see leads on the floor and a camera in the background. All the quality checks made it hard to present a perfect film, however with the shots we had and the effects we created in Premier most of them have been covered up, either by zoom or blacking out the background.
Proposed Scheduling Time
Looking at film ratings on websites like Feefo.com it seems as though my film fits in with the critiria when it comes to adults. They wanted something the children can learn from but also engage them by using characters that are relatable and easy to understand. I used fairy tales told by parents in order to relate to my target audiecne children. Also keeping with the PG certification I have finally understood what my film needed in order to collaberate with the specific guidlines, this includes deaths happening off sceen. I think all in all the film keeps to the specifications of the scedualling times before the watershed and relates to the Certification well.
Areas For Improvemt Within The Production
Improvements on the day would be a number of things.
-
Too big of a cast – As this was a mammoth task to ask I would improve by keeping my idea simple and having less actors in order to get a better shot.
-
Timings – Find a bigger budget in order to hire a location for free or for more days in order to go back and get other shots better.
-
Go to the location before hand – Learn what is there and the surrounds I can use in order to get the best effects.
-
Teamwork – We all could of communicated better on what we wanted to see. We never stopped to re group and think about what we could improve on.
