BBC One Ident
Purpose
The BBC's ident is created to give the channel an identity in the hope of attracting more viewers. Idents are designed in a way that represents the television channel. This is because the creative idents are designed to mix everything that the television channel includes and what it wants to protray to the audience which can also reflect the programmes they can find on this television channel.
Form
The Ident is usually a 30-60 seconds long short clip that is usally foun at the start of a program, channel or even a documentry to promote the orginaisation or channel it is beeing shown on. These are creative and stands out from the rest of the channel to convey a contrast to what the channel may intel and what it actually does. They usually reveal the logo of the orgniasation gradualy to keep the audience watching of when it may show up.
Content/Meaning
-
There is a child at the beging of the ident. The purpose of the child is to engage the audience straight away to present the innocence of the BBC and how these programs will suitable for the innocent minded and also any age. As she is looking out of the car and focusing on the world around her it reflects how the BBC could be supporting naturalistic programs as well as scripted to present a wide range of channels.
-
There is a man in a red poncho riding a bike in the rain with a women in black holding a see through umbrella. The man in the red poncho seems to reflect the colour of the BBC as it is usually associated with that particular colour. He also seems to represent one channel that BBC presents as he is on his own. The rain can connote depressing and dull but the BBC present it as a fresh element to the ident; rain or shine the BBC will always present high quality programs. The women in black conveys a normal everyday citizen that is trying to face the weather reflecting an audience trying something new on television.
-
Other coloured poncho riders join the shot some with the same colours like the first man but some in yellow and in green. All these people seem to follow each other in one huge line. All these colours collectively work together could reflect the BBC’s view on how a organisation should collectively bring different genres into one. The wide range of colours present a wide range of genres and television broadcasts they may have. The formation of the arch lines and presenting red first then yellow then green seems to present a pattern of a rainbow forming which connects back to the child at the beginning that all these colours shows the quality and range of programs.
-
The weather changes into a bright sunny glow and the colour orange ponchos are shown in shot from a birds eye view. The women from the shot near the beginning puts down her umbrella. The road is clear and shadows fall on to the road from the shape of the bikers. The weather changing creates a whole new dimension and atmosphere towards the BBC as is connotes that they will lighten up the audience’s day by watching their programs. The mood of the ident changes to a happier and more friendly perspective that everyone can enjoy. The repetition of the women presents how the audience will try and love the BBC and would not want to watch any other programmer.
-
The ident ends with all the different rainbow coloured poncho cyclists appearing from different directions to create a huge circle formation around a round-a-bout in the middle of a village. The birds eye view gives the audience the sense of how big the circle is and how the it is a gradual increases in the number of people. The graphics of the BBC One logo appears in the middle in the form of an animation as the cyclists continuously cycle in a circle. As the logo is usually associated as being round like the ‘O’ on the word One the choreographed cyclists create a unique pattern for a unique programmer. The different directions shows how different audiences will enjoy different programs and that they will all watch BBC One as they will all find something they will enjoy.
-
The non-diegetic sounds create another dimension in the ident. The sound is a continuos sound put on loop they seems to represent the dripping of the rain even though the rain isn't continuous visually. It is soft but loud to give a relaxed mood for the ident and it reflects that BBC isn't a complicated Programmer as the music is simple and in tune.
Genre
The content of the Ident seems to reflect:
-
The news - For the weather updates as the weather in the ident seems to change throughout
-
Sport - As there are men cycling in the rain
-
Children's entertainment - As the colours represent a childlike mind towards the audience.
These genres provide evedence towards the audeince that the ident refleacts on all the programs BBC might be broadcasting.
