Production Process (Breif)
Pre-Production:
A film adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit (1937) was in development for several years after the critical and financial success of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003), co-written, co-produced, and directed by Peter Jackson. Jackson was initially going to produce a two-film adaptation of The Hobbit, which was to be directed by Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro left the project in May 2010, after about two years of working with Jackson and his production team, due to delays caused in part by financial problems at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Jackson was announced as director that October.
The Hobbit films were produced back to back, like The Lord of the Rings films. Principal photography for The Hobbit films began on March 21, 2011 in New Zealand and ended on July 6, 2012, after 266 days of filming.
Production:
Pick-ups for An Unexpected Journey were filmed in July 2012 as well. Work on the film was expected to be completed on November 26, just two days prior to the film's Wellington premiere. Information found from website below.

Analysising Promotional Posters

Masthead
There is a big, bold masthead that stands out over the character background. It is simple yet traditional like the Hobbit reflects in their films: olden times with tradition. the serif font makes it have a formal feel altough the letters are different shapes and sizes. It is also in capital letters to make it shout out at the audience to make them stop and look or to have a quick look and know whay the poster is about.
Codes & Convections
-
You could typically see a film poster portrait rather than landscape
-
You would usually find the characters or charcter from the film in the middle of the poster.
-
you always want to find out whe the film is released and in what cinemas.
-
The masthead isnt usually on the top of the poster but usually somewhere where the rest of the writing is.
-
Most of the time you will see actors credits at the bottom of the poster.
Small Print
The small print is a differet font to the masthead which gives it its own personality as even the date is in a san serif fount to give a contrast. The date is in a simple font so the audience doesnt miss read the date of realease. The white colour gives it a simplistic look but shows it doesnt really belong on the poster as it doesnt blend in with the background. The acting credit is in a smaller font to present that it isn't as important as the other writing. There is also the institues involved underneath the writing with their logos and names to give them credit and show my audience who made the film.
The character
Martain Freeman is giving direct address towards the audience to draw them into the poster. Looking into his eyes one seems to be green and the other blue to present that there is two sides to this character, (just like character when he puts on the ring). The serious fast reflects the serious battle and adventure that he has to complete and the sword reflects danger, which promtos death and action for the teenagers and men in the family. The clothes he is wearing sets the scene of the whole film which helps the audeince understand the theames as well.
